BUILDING SUMMARY
Del Prado is one of the oldest and largest of Hyde Park's fashionable apartment hotels. Built in 1918, the building's "H" shape allows for each unit to have maximum window access- ensuring bright, airy interiors. Originally designed in classic revival style, Del Prado has both ornate Beaux Arts and streamlined Art Deco characteristics- and reflects strongly original owner Sherman "Tecumseh" Cooper's fascination with Native American cultures. Highly detailed plaster and terra cotta ornamentation, intricate balustrades on the grand staircase and promenades, and decorative grilles are a few of the copious architectural elements that brandish the Native American motif. Common spaces wrapped in richly striated marble harken to the natural landscapes of the Midwest.

Renowned for its luxury and ideal locale on the lake and overlooking the park, The Hotel Del Prado attracted many famous visitors, including Amelia Earhart, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Joe Dimaggio.
